VESA TV Mounts Explained

July 22nd, 2010

When shopping for a flat panel TV or a flat panel TV mount you may see the term VESA somewhere in the description. VESA stands for Video Electronics Standards Association. VESA sets standards for things like video connections to ensure compatibility between components. They have also established a standard for TV mounting to make it easier for consumers to match TVs to mounts.

The televisions and mounts that meet VESA standards have four metric screws in either a square or rectangular pattern. The configurations are usually referred to by the distance between the mounting holes in millimeters. A few examples are; 200 X 200, 400 X 400, 600 X 400 and 800 X 400.

The VESA standards also dictate the diameter and length of screws that are used. In other words, all TVs and mounts with a 400 X 400 mounting pattern will use the same size screws and will work together. The screws are usually supplied with the mount but they will also be supplied with the TV if the TV includes any type of table-top support or bracket.

Many TV wall mounts and TV stands with mounts attached can be adjusted to fit a range of mounting patterns. This is a very good feature if you think you may get a different TV in the near future or if you have more than one TV which you may want to move around.

The VESA standardization makes it easy to match a TV to a mount. By checking that both are VESA compliant and have the same mounting pattern, you can be sure that your TV will attach to the mount without any problems.

This mount will fit any TV with VESA 100×100, 200×200, 300×300, 400×400, and 400X600This mount will fit any TV with VESA 100×100, 200×200, 300×300, 400×400, and 400X600

It should say in the owner’s manual. I found the answer on Amazon, it’s 300X300. If anyone has trouble finding the pattern, you can always measure the distance between the mounting holes in millimeters.

I am trying to mount my flat screen tv on a stand , but misplaced the screws that atach the tv to the bracket. There are four screw holes, tried most machine screw types, but do not fit.
